Auchtermuchty and its Festival

Nestled halfway between the East Lomond Hill at Falkland, to the south, and the river Tay to the north. Auchtermuchty, population 3238, has had roots here dating back to AD82 as a Roman marching camp. Archeologists have also dated remains of houses back to AD350.
In 1517 Auchtermuchty was constituted a royal burgh by James IV, which charter was confirmed by James VI. The next few hundred years, Auchtermuchty trade has consisted of weighing machines and engineering, linen and flax and brewing beer and whiskey.

1980 saw the start of the first ever Auchtermuchty Festival, and the birth of the Auchtermuchty Festival Society. This has been so successful that we are now entering our 30th year. Each year has its own theme, which have included "Out of this world" in 1987, "Medievil Muchty" in 1990, "Scottish/Irish Connection" in 1996, "The Full Muchty in 2000 to name but a few, and lastly "Panto" in 2005 to celebrate our 25th Anniversary.
